Can you explain what dental veneers are?

Dental veneers are thin shells made of porcelain or composite resin that are bonded to the teeth to create a natural-looking appearance. They are designed to match the shade and color of your natural teeth, providing patients with a perfect white smile.

Veneers are commonly used for patients with misshapen, stained, uneven, or chipped teeth. While not permanent, veneers are durable and can last between 10-15 years, depending on the amount of wear and tear they experience over time.

What type of person is an ideal candidate for veneers?

Patients with discoloration resulting from various dental procedures are often suitable candidates for veneers. Additionally, those with stains caused by food or prescription drugs can also find benefits from veneers. Veneers can help create a uniform smile, close gaps between teeth, and provide a natural appearance. Porcelain veneers are well-tolerated by gum tissue and are resistant to stains, ensuring they remain bright white.

How are veneers put on?

In our office, getting veneers typically involves multiple appointments. We start with a consultation to discuss your goals and create a personalized treatment plan. X-rays are taken to assess your teeth and determine the best type of veneers for you.

During the next appointment, a portion of your tooth enamel is removed to prepare for the veneers. Molds of your teeth are taken and sent to a lab to create the veneers. Once they are ready, we ensure they fit properly and match your natural teeth.

The teeth are cleaned thoroughly before the veneers are placed using a special cement material. An ultraviolet light is used to harden the veneers quickly. The entire process takes a few weeks and requires multiple appointments.

After the veneers are placed, we ask patients to come back for a follow-up visit to ensure they are still looking and feeling great. Veneers are a non-invasive procedure, making them a popular choice for patients looking to achieve a bright white smile.
